Walk the green talk with disabled

It’s time to pull those sneakers up and join the green-brigade for its walk with the disabled.

Samarthanam — Trust for the Disabled is organising its fifth Bengaluru Walk-a-thon 2009 on December 5 tocommemorate the International Disability Day.

The walk-a-thon intends to promote an understanding of issues involving disability among the public and to integrate disabled people into the mainstream.

Speaking about the event, which will be held at Kanteerava Stadium, event co-ordinator Shiju TK said, “We are expecting at least 18,000 participants to share the platform with 3,000 disabled people.”

The event will also focus on effective waste management and need for recyclingrenewable resources.

The organisers hope the event will go a long way in building a disabled-friendly society.
The International Disability Day falls on Thursday.
