Vilasini, who has been confined to a dark room for the past 20 years by her husband and his paramour, may not live long, her well-wishers fear.

A fast-track court of Mangalore had on Saturday, November 26, ordered that Vilasini should be examined by the doctors of Wenlock Hospital. The court had sought a report on her mental and physical health a week. Allegedly, she has not been taken to doctors yet.

The activists of People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), the outfit that is tracking the case, told DNA that Vilasini’s captors had sent a maid to the hospital to get signatures of the doctors on documents to prove that she was taken to the hospital. Patrick D’Sa, president of the state unit of PUCL, told DNA that the hospital has given a fake out-patient number in the name of Vilasini.

He said PUCL activists tracked the maid, who told them that she was sent to the hospital to get signature on some documents.

Vilasini’s son-in-law, who along with her daughter, Sheen, is trying to get her releasedm said they feared that Vilasini might not live long because they suspected that her captors were administering her drugs to mentally destabilise her and physically weaken her.
