Twelve vehicles parked in Jokatte, near the upcoming petrochemicals complex of Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Limited, were vandalised on Saturday.

The incident has been viewed as an effort to malign job-seekers in the Special Economic Zone. The job-seekers have been holding a protest for the past 12 days. The police also concurred that the vandalism was ploy to malign protestors.

The protestors have denied they had any hand in damaging the vehicles. “We are a group of people in search of jobs. We are not goons who would inflict loss on somebody else to drive our own cause,” said a protestor.

Police sub-inspector Valentine D’Souza said no arrests have been made so far.
