A politician’s visit to Kukke Subramanya temple caused inconvenience to many devotees who had flown from afar to offer their prayers.

BJP leader Varun Gandhi arrived at the temple town on Monday night. The next morning, there was tight security for him at the temple, and the devotees were not allowed to enter the premises for a while.

Only after Gandhi left did the temple authorities let the other devotees inside. This created a furore among the devotees who felt that Gandhi was given a preferential treatment because he was a politician. Many others were annoyed that his visit ruined their flight plans.

“VIPs should not visit temples or other places where large crowds are expected. Even if they do, let them tighten the security. They must not stop the common man from entering the premises,” said Ashwin Shetty, a techie from Bangalore.

“I had to catch a flight from Mangalore to Mumbai in the morning after the visit. But due to the delay, I had to take the afternoon flight” said Prajwal Sinha, an executive from Mumbai.
