Unscientific humps or speed-breakers have caused many a death on roads and the state government on Tuesday assured that they would be removed soon in the interest of motorists’ safety.
All the un-scientific humps on highways in the state would be removed within next three to four months. “We have already removed 4,262 unscientific humps on national and state highways in the last six months. The remaining 1,762 speed-breakers would be removed within three or four months,” public works minister CM Udasi assured the Legislative Council in reply to a question from N Thippanna.

As for speed-breakers in city limits are concerned, the local urban bodies would take appropriate decision on removing them, Udasi said.

However, the minister further stated that it is inevitable to have speed-breakers in some places as local residents demand them. In such cases care would be taken to ensure that the height of the humps is not more than 10cm, he assured.

Higher education minister VS Acharya too expressed his concern over the accidents taking place because of the unscientific humps. The Bellary-Ananthapur highway was pointed as the worst in posing danger for the motorists and the members urged the removal of humps.
