A jilted lover murdered his ex-girlfriend’s paramour, tried to kill her and then allegedly attempted suicide in HSR Layout on Sunday evening.
The police said Ravi Rana Singh, 24, a native of Bihar, killed Kaushik KG, 23, a resident of Koramangala and a native of Chennai. Both Singh and Kaushik had an affair with Aparna V, 21, a resident of HSR Layout. Preliminary investigation revealed that Singh and Aparna had studied together in PES College and had a love affair. After finishing college, they worked in different companies.
It was at Aparna’s workplace that she met Kaushik and the two fell in love. Meanwhile, she had started avoiding Singh. The police said she was not answering his calls or responding to his text messages for the past two months. He had gone to her house many times, only to hear her say she was not interested in speaking to him. She curtly told him she did not love him.
Singh went to her house again on Sunday about 6.30pm. Aparna opened the door but shut it upon seeing him. Singh noticed that Kaushik was in the house. Furious, he returned to her house after five minutes with a knife. When Aparna opened the door, he forced his way into the house and stabbed Kaushik in his stomach thrice. Singh stabbed Aparna, too, and fled. Alerted by the commotion, Aparna’s neighbours came to her house and immediately shifted her to a hospital. Singh then went to his house, which is near Aparna’s.
Later, his neighbours discovered him lying injured on the ground, and they suspected that he fell from the third floor of the building. They shifted him to a nearby hospital.
The police said Singh had on an earlier occasion slit his wrist to convince Aparna that he cannot live without her. Further, the police said Singh had tried to kill Aparna a week ago too, when he had set her house afire.
