Commissioner of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Siddaiah, on Tuesday issued a circular to all zonal joint commissioners in the Palike to fill up all city potholes in 15 days.
Heavy rains and pothole-ridden roads had left many city roads choked over the past few days.
A sum of Rs1 lakh has been released for the purpose to each of the city’s 198 wards.
The task, the circular said, ought to be taken up on a war footing. “Motorists are suffering because of potholes. We have instructed that all potholes be filled up, but work has yet to begin on many city roads,” said the BBMP commissioner.
All chief engineers have been instructed to look into the matter of mending city roads. Where new roads are being laid, the contractors concerned will be expected to fill up any potholes that already exist.
Officials of the Palike would supervise such repair work. Ifcontractors refuse to mend the potholes, the Palike would take punitive action and refuse to approve their bills, the commissioner said.
On Saturday, oppositon members in the BBMP council had alleged that there was no co-ordination between the Karnataka Land Army Corporation (KLAC) and the BBMP over the pothole-filling drive which had been contracted to the former.
