Three people, including a woman, died in a series of train accidents near Malleswaram station on Wednesday. While preliminary investigations suggested that two people died after being hit by trains while crossing the tracks, the cause of the third person’s death is yet to be ascertained.

Mumtaz Begum (45), a resident of Kodigehalli, was crossing
the tracks near the station around 8.30 am when she was hit by
a passing train. Her relatives said that she was suffering from
knee pain and was undergoing treatment at an ayurvedic clinic in Subramanyanagar. On Wednesday, too, she was on her way to the clinic, when she was hit by a train. A witness rushed to her rescue, but she died on the spot.

Sooraj (25), a resident of Malleswaram and employee of Karthik Enterprises in the same locality, also died after being hit by a train near the Gayatrinagar overbridge. He was a native of Kerala. His family will arrive in the city to claim the body.

A third body was found around noon about a kilometer from the station. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained as there were no documents found on the person. But the police said that it was of a man aged between 20 and 25 years.

All the three bodies were sent to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
