Many at Garuda Mall thought that King of Pop Michael Jackson has sprung back to life. A bunch of college students, calling themselves the Smart Mob, danced to MJ’s popular number, All I wanna say is they don’t really care about us. This tune was apt as the students were raising their voices against poverty and inequality in the country.
Choreographed by Disha Madan and Rashmi Muniyappa of the Ugesh Sarcar troupe, the young dancers gave a splendid performance. “As many as 35 students from different colleges gathered at the centrally located city mall at 4.30pm to raise their voice against poverty and inequality in the country. Showing the true spirit of the youth in Bangalore, the crowd in the flash mob asked the city to come and stand up against poverty,” Muniyappa said.
The dance event was organised under the aegis of Oxfam India & Ugesh Sarcar’s magic studio. “It was not just an ordinary gathering. We want the world to know that we need to stand up against poverty. We need the world to know that is never too late to ask for equality. This is just the beginning. We have much more to do.”
