Affairs of heart now become public for former minister of state for external affairs Shashi Tharoor. He may have lost his cabinet post but Tharoor will officially win over his longtime friend Sunanda Pushkar on June 27 at Bangalore. Yes, DNA has learnt that the couple is getting engaged for a long, fruitful innings.

The engagement function will be held at Golden Palms Hotel and Spa in the city.

A source from the resort said, “The engagement date is fixed. While some of the guests will be checking in early, considering it is the weekend, others are expected on the day of the do. However, the entire hotel has been blocked for Saturday and Sunday (June 26 and 27), for it is going to be a big affair. There will be no access into the hotel for any person who is not on the guest list. We are yet to receive the guest list and it will be handed over to us only by June 23 or 24.”

DNA has also learnt that everything, from the security to the service, will be beefed up on that day, as the author-politician has invited a host of high-profile friends from India and abroad.

A senior police officer says: “We are yet to receive a confirmation about the engagement. Tharoor is now only a member of parliament. We are not expecting an advance intelligence warning or inputs on the event as we would in the case of a VIP. We, however, will be keenly watching over the developments as there will be a lot of VIPs coming down.”

Intelligence sources, however, say that at least a dozen former cabinet colleagues are expected to attend the engagement. Tharoor and Pushkar are expected to be in town a day or two prior to the big day.
