Nestled in a quaint little park in Indiranagar is a structure that is giving a handful of its neighbours a bit of grief. The structure in question is a run-down temple, and a few residents who live in and around the area claim that the temple has been erected illegally and ought to be taken down.
“It has been around for five or six years now and it is illegal. Despite my many pleas, the structure remains to this day,” said HM Thimmarayappa, a lawyer who lives near the park.
“There are at least a dozen tubelights in the building and there is no meter. And the water connection has been taken from the water pipe and again, there is no meter,” he said.
For some joggers, passing around the temple has become a part of theirroutine. “It does not disrupt the path for joggers, so I am notbothered,” said a jogger.
For Domlur ward corporator, Geetha Srinivas Reddy, the fact that the temple is causing problems came as a shock. “I haven’t really had anyone question its presence before. In fact, the community is happy as many residents take part in its festivities. It was built before my time, and I don’t really know if it is illegal,” she said.
Reddymade it clear that bringing down the structure will be out of question. “If anyone has a problem, they should come to me and we can find a solution,” she said.
She said that she is willing to mediate between the templetrustees and the residents who are against the structure. “I will call for a meeting between the trustees and the residents and arrange it so that the temple trustees pay for the electricity,” she said.
