It was a loan that turned an engineer into a criminal. Twenty-six-year-old Sajesh was so desperate that he decided to rob a jewellery showroom to repay his instalment. Sajesh, an MTech, was arrested by the Bangalore police along with four of his associates on Friday when he tried to rob a jewellery showroom in Jayanagar.

The five men reached the showroom posing as members of a wedding party. According to deputy commissioner of police (north-east) Basavaraj Y Malagatti, the men had planned to send in a decoy wearing a helmet and then carry out the robbery at the Tanishq showroom but were immediately caught after a police informer tipped a patrol party.

Sajesh, Gopi (26), Thohid (24), Sardar Pasha (22) and Imran (20) were caught from the spot. Sajesh is a former employee of a software firm. “He left the firm in 2008 and started his own software company in Rajajinagar after taking a loan of Rs10 lakh from a bank.

However, he made huge losses and decided to get into robbery to repay his loan,” a police official said. Sajesh met Gopi and promised to give Gopi and three of his associates Rs 20,000 for the job.
