TCS man crushed under lorry, two others killed in hit-and-run case in Bangalore

A software engineer with the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was among six persons killed in five separate road accidents in the past two days.

TCS employee P Devesh, 29, was heading towards his office on Whitefield Road when a lorry knocked him down from behind and crushed him on the Old Madras Road near the Isolation Hospital in Indiranagar around 12.30 on Sunday afternoon.

Devesh, a resident of Rajajinagar, died while being rushed to the Bowring Hospital, police said.

The lorry driver fled the scene abandoning his vehicle, which was now in police custody.

Police said Devesh, son of watch repairman Prakash, was a brilliant young man. His parents had been looking for a bride for him.

In another accident, a civil engineer and BBMP contractor was fatally knocked down by a Tamil Nadu Transport Corporation bus around 10 pm on Saturday.

Narayan, 40, a resident of BTM Layout, was walking towards a bus stop on Dr Mariyappa Gowda Road in Lakkasandra when the accident happened. He was heading home after a party at a friend’s place.

Narayana died instantly, police said, adding that they had arrested the bus driver Kumar and confiscated the vehicle.

A post-mortem examination was conducted at the Bowring on Sunday.

Two pedestrians were killed in a hit-and-run case on the Silk Board Junction flyover around 10.30 pm on Saturday. Police said quoting witnesses that the men were crossing the road when a Tata Indica cab knocked them down. The victims died in two different hospitals.

Police said only one of the victims, Karthikeyan, 27, has been identified. Karthikeyan, a mason, had been living in a nearby slum.

Both the men sustained serious injuries in the accident. While Karthikeyan succumbed to the injuries at Nimhans, the unidentified man in his mid-30s, died in Victoria Hospital, where his body has been kept for identification.

Police said the unidentified body has two tattoos on both its arms: of MGR and another which read, Kamakshi.

Karthikeyan’s body was handed over to his relatives on Sunday, after a post-mortem examination.

Maruthi Nagar-resident Manjunath, 48, was killed when a BMTC bus ran over him near Kodigehalli Gate around 10.30 am on Saturday. The driver fled the scene soon after the accident. The deceased had been a private firm worker.

Gangappa, 41, was killed instantly when a KSRTC bus rammed into his bicycle in front of Karavalli Hotel on Tumkur Road in Peenya on Friday night. The deceased, a factory worker and resident of Nelagadaranahalli, was crossing the road when the accident happened.

A post-mortem examination was conducted at the MS Ramaiah Hospital.
