Banglore: "We want justice," cried the students who had gathered around the Maharani College Circle on Tuesday.

The underpass at the Circle was opened for traffic on June 7, 2009 and was constructed to allow signal-free traffic movement. "While the traffic has been taken into consideration, the convenience of the pedestrians has been neglected," said the protesting students.

The underpass with its signal-free roads makes crossing of roads difficult for pedestrians, especially during the peak hours, which coincide with the college timings. "The corporation should provide us with proper pedestrian crossing or change the bus stop," said Shabreen Taj, a student. Members of the All-India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO), All-India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO) and All-India Mahila Samskruthika Sangathane (AIMSS) staged the protest against the BBMP at the Maharani Circle and demanded that the civic bodytake immediate action for the safety of the students using these roads.

A written complaint had been forwarded to the Corporation Commissioner from the Maharani Arts, Commerce and Management College addressing the issue but the problem remains unaddressed.
