Bangalore: The Sri Rama Sene is all set to counter 'love jihad'.A 'beti bachao' (save daughter) campaign will be launched, so that young people can be watched, said Sene leaders, who claim that Hindu girls in the state are being lured into marriage by boys of a certain minority community, who aim only to make the girls convert. The 'love', said Sene leaders, serves merely as a guise for religious conversion.
"We will ensure that the modesty of Hindu women is not ravaged, and that religious conversions do not happen through such devious means," said Arun Puthila, state convener, Sri Ram Sene. The Sene plans to keep an eye on ice cream parlours and coffee homes, even pubs. Call centres, bus stands, parks, picnic spots and hotels will be closely monitored as also schools and temples, to thwart youth aiming to practice 'love jihad'.
Squads of Sene activists on motorcycles will be deployed to keep a watch on young people in Kasargod, Mangalore, Udupi, Belgaum, Bangalore, Karwar, Hubli and Dharwad, from where cases of 'love jihad' have been reported.
President of Sri Rama Sene, Pramod Muthalik, said, "A Belgaum girl said that Islamic terrorists ravaged her, and made a pornographic film. They threatened to publish it on the Internet if she did not accede to their demands." He added, "Once a girl is over 18 years, there is little that the law enforcement machinery can do -- it is assumed that the girl converted and married of her own accord. Complaints from parents also do not carry any weight."
The police too are wary of taking action, Muthalik claimed, adding, "We have trained 5,000 young people to identify youth who might be indulging in 'love jihad'. Young people will be disciplined, even if it means beating them up. Our young people will move in groups of about five members each, and they will be trained to deal with situations of combat. In over two years, we expect that the army of youth at our command will swell to 25,000."
