Spine conference begins today in Bangalore

About 400 spine surgeons from the world over will be in the city over the next three days to take part in an international spinal surgeon’s conference — Spine 2011.

This was announced at a press meet on Wednesday. The Neuro-Spinal Surgeons Association (NSSA) India, in association with the Narayana Hrudayalaya Institute of Neurosciences, Bangalore is organizing the conference.

The conference, which is an annual event, will be hosted by the spine surgeons of Bangalore, headed by Dr Thimappa Hegde, director and senior consultant neurosurgeon, Narayana Hrudayalaya Institute of Neurosciences.

About 400 spine surgeons from all over the world will attend the conference. More than 20 senior and eminent spine surgeons from USA, UK, Australia, Korea, Japan, Switzerland and Egypt will share their expertise with the young spine surgeons in India.

“The conference will also provide a platform for valuable academic exchange and sharing of knowledge between senior spine surgeons of India and other countries. It is for the first time that an international spinal surgeon’s conference of this stature is being conducted in Bangalore,” said Dr Hegde.

The theme of the conference will be spinal stabilisation and there will be scientific sessions on management of various complex spine disorders, spinal deformities, spinal tumours and infections.

The NSSA presided by eminent spinal surgeon and its founder, Dr PS Ramani from Mumbai, is the central body of Neuro-Spinal Surgeons of India and has members from both India and abroad.
