A private company employee on Friday died in a serial collision triggered by a speeding tipper lorry on the Magadi Road. The lorry driver lost control and hit three vehicles - two two-wheelers and a mini-truck. It also crashed on to a traffic signal pole.

The deceased has been identified as Raghavendra Bhagat, a resident of Chandra Layout and a native of Mysore. He was returning home after visiting a temple in Sunkadakatte, along with his wife Swetha Kaushik, on his motorcycle. Around 11 am, they  reached Sri Gandha Kavalu junction on Magadi road near Sumanahalli and were waiting for the signal to turn green.

Just then a speeding lorry hit their motorcycle from behind and Raghavendra got run over and died on the spot.

The lorry then hit another motorcycle and its rider Santosh Badigar fractured his leg. It also hit a mini-lorry and subsequently knocked down a traffic signal.

Then the lorry driver managed to stop the vehicle and fled the spot, before crowds could gather, police said.

Badigar later said, “We were waiting for the green signal and had no idea that a lorry was coming from behind and would hit us. Everything happened in a minute.”

Raghavendra was working in the HR department in a private company in Rajajinagar, and Swetha was a housewife, She too suffered injuries and is in a state of shock. The couple got married six months back, police said. The police have approached the RTO to know details of the lorry’s owner and driver. A case has been registered at Kamakshipalya traffic police station.
