Bangalore: Six months. That’s the time the state government wants from the Karnataka high court to hold the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections.
The government was forced to come out with a postponement plea after the bench headed by justices Manjula Chellur and Abdul Nazeer pulled up the government and State Election Commission (SEC) for delaying the polls. When questioned about the delay, the government counsel, additional advocate general KM Nataraj, said they were waiting for a copy of the SC order. That upset the bench, which said it was nothing but “complete waste of time.”
“This could have been avoided. On 29th of last month you could have approached the court as you were awaiting the order. You should have notified us. Why has it taken eight days for you to file? Your acts are embarrassing everybody,” the bench said.
