Short-circuits cause fire in two buildings in Bangalore

A fire broke out on the first floor of a building that houses stationery products in Yelahanka on Sunday morning. The building, in Akshaynagar, Attur Layout, Yelahanka New Town, belongs to one Chetan. The fire broke out at 11.15 am. After preliminary investigation, fire department officials suspect a short circuit as cause of the fire. The building owner supplies different products to shops in Yelahanka. He stays on the ground floor of the building. On the first floor, he had kept chocolates, biscuits and other items, besides stationery products. The building owner’s employees informed the fire department when the fire broke out.

Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. The fire was put out at 2 pm. Almost 90% of the stored products were gutted. There was more smoke because of food products, fire department officials said.

Chetan, who saw the flames consuming the products, fainted and was taken to a nearby hospital. The police said the loss because of the fire was estimated to be about Rs10 lakh.

In Jayanagar, a fire broke out in a residential building at 11 am. The police said a short circuit in the building’s generator on the third floor caused the fire. The residents of the building called fire department and, till they arrived, tried to douse the fire themselves by pouring water. One fire tender rushed to the spot and put out the flames. No casualties were reported. The police said no complaint was registered.
