It is testing time for second year pre-university (PUC) students from Thursday. Their final examinations for the year 2011-12 will begin on March 15.

The examinations will be held at 923 centres across the state from March 15 to 30. Bangalore has 64 centres in North and 35 centres in South. This year, the total number of students taking the examinations is 5.96 lakh.

This year, 2,75,870 girls and 3,20,869 boys will appear for the exam. The number of fresh candidates taking the exams is 4.29 lakh. There are 1.3 lakh repeaters and 36,907 private candidates.

To avoid impersonation, the state pre-university department has introduced a new step. “All these years, most impersonation cases we have seen were from private candidates. So, to avoid that, we have decided to randomise them to different colleges. Because of this measure, the candidates themselves will not get to know the college where they are writing the exam till a day before the exam,” said an official from PU department.

To avoid malpractice, the department has appointed squads at both district and taluk levels. Along with this, special sitting squads have been deputed at each centre. An official said 87 centres have been identified as sensitive and 80 as hyper-sensitive.
