A 12-year-old schoolgirl, depressed on being scolded by parents for watching too much television, allegedly committed suicide on Monday.

B Jayashree, hanged herself to the hook on the ceiling of her house in Manjappa Block, KG Nagar, when her parents were out on work. Police said Jayashree committed suicide between 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm on Monday. The incident came to light at 6pm when her parents returned home.

She was the only daughter of Basappa, an employee of Keshava Shilpa auditorium and his wife, who works in a different office.

Jayashree was poor in studies and had fared badly in the recent monthly tests. When this was brought to the parents’ notice by the school administration, Basappa warned Jayashree not to watch television. On Sunday, he slapped Jayashree for not being serious with studies.

A disturbed Jayashree took the extreme step when her parents were not in the house. The parents had left for work around 9am on Monday. A case has been registered in KG Nagar police station.

Boy electrocuted
A 14-year-old boy died while undergoing treatment for the burns he sustained after coming in indirect contact with a live electric wire near his house in Janakiram Layout, New Lingarajapura.

The deceased has been identified as Navaz. He was flying a kite along with his brother and friends in front of his house on Monday. The kite got stuck in an electric wire passing through the top of his house. Navaz went to the terrace to retrieve the kite. He was electrocuted while attempted to get it back.

He sustained 70 % burn injuries and was immediately rushed to Victoria Hospital where he died around 10.30pm on Monday.

Navaz was the youngest son of Iqbal and Jabina Taj. He was assisting his father, who is a push-cart hawker. He had a brother and sister.

The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered in Banaswadi police station.
