Transparency International India (TII), Karnataka chapter, on Thursday demanded the Chief Justice of Supreme Court conduct an open enquiry and investigate the allegations against the Karntaka High Court Chief Justice, PD Dinakaran.
The chairman of TII, Karnataka chapter, Justice MF Saldanha, said, “I will write a letter to the CJI in two days. It’s already late but even now the Supreme Court can set a healthy precedent by ordering a high-level enquiry into the issue and in the meanwhile direct the judicial officer concerned to proceed on leave,” he said.
“Nobody is above the law. Every public servant, whichever field they might be associated with, is answerable to the law. If anyone faces a serious charge of corruption, they are debarred from carrying out their official duties till the time their names are cleared. But right from the time of independence, however, there hasn’t been any example of action been taken against judges. The Supreme Court collegium this time also has conveniently passed the onus to the union government to take action. Thus it is appropriate to conduct an open enquiry against the Chief Justice PD Dinakaran,” Justice Saldanha added.
