Banglore: Hanumanthanagar police averted a major showdown between two rival rowdy gangs after they arrested a notorious rowdy, S Ravichandran alias Ravi alias Kat Ravi (39), in Mahalakshmi Layout and recovered a country-made revolver, besides choppers, swords and daggers, from him on Monday.
According to sources, the arrest was made after police intercepted the rowdy and six of his accomplices at Pipeline area in Hanumanthanagar. "All we did was ask them to show the documents pertaining to the cab, but instead, they chose to take to their heels - leaving Ravi behind. We are currently searching for the others," inspector BN Shamanna said.
Police records revealed that Ravi was involved in two murder cases, including the slaying of a rowdy, Palani, at Hosmat hospital in February 2006.
"We think Ravi was with another rowdy, Rajesh alias Koli Rajesh, in the vehicle when we struck. They were planning to attack their rivals when the arrest occurred. The other gang members, including Rajesh, are absconding but it's just a matter of time before we nab them," the officer said.
