What happened
Vinay and Murthy had hatched a plan to loot an isolated house in Bagalkunte village, near eighth milestone on Tumkur Road.

They were approaching their quarry on a bike when a CCB police team led by ACP SY Hadimani, acting on a tip-off, accosted them near the village.

Pleas from the police to the duo to stop the bike yielded no response and the two speeded. Murthy was riding the bike, with Vinay riding pillion.

The CCB police flashed a general alert and chased the duo for about 3.5 km.

Meanwhile, another police team led by inspectors Srinivas and Sakri had also swung into action.

The two police teams closed in on the rowdies on a road that led to Tumkur Road near Widia factory.

The duo was stuck in front of a government school on the road with police teams sealing both ends of the road.

The rowdies tried to ride their bike into a huge drain in a desperate effort to get away. Hadimani asked the duo to surrender.

The response came in the form of a bullet fired by Vinay from his revolver, shattering the glass panes of Hadimani’s jeep.

As the situation threatened to go out of control, inspector Sakri opened fire at Vinay, who was injured in his left knee. Constable Srinivas, who was in Sakri’s team, in the meantime, tried to catch.

Murthy, who whipped out a machete and attacked the policeman. Srinivas was injured in his left arm. Inspector Srinivas shot Murthy in the leg.

All the three were immediately rushed to hospital. A case has been registered in the Peenya police station.
