Bangalore: Union minister of state for railways E Ahamed said the railway projects in Karnataka were taking longer time for completion due to unavailability of resources. Replying to a question by Rajya Sabha member and convenor of Agenda for Bengaluru Infrastructure Development (ABIDe) Rajeev Chandrasekhar in Parliament, Ahamed said targets are generally fixed on yearly basis depending on the availability of resources.
Hence the projects get completed in phases. Many railway projects are underway in the state on new lines, gauge conversion, doubling work, railway electrification, and metropolitan transport. He said several steps had been taken to expedite these works.
Ahamed also said the thrust in the state should be to take up the delayed projects on priority and finish them. The Union government also observed that some of the projects in the state like Shimoga-Talguppa (97 km) gauge conversion, which does not need much works are also taking time for completion
