The loyalists of former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa seem to be in no mood for conciliation and are now accusing chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda of practicing double standards.

Excise minister MP Renukacharya said here on Saturday that when the Central Empowering Committee (CEC) had sought reply in the Yeddyurappa case, it was sent in three days. But when CEC sought reply to an illegal mining case lodged against former chief ministers SM Krishna, N Dharam Singh and HD Kumaraswamy, it took them a fortnight to send a reply.

“The Supreme Court had asked the state to give the reply quickly, so that it can take up this case also along with Yeddyurappa’s. Turning a blind eye, the chief minister sent reply through post, after delaying for 15 days. In Yeddyurappa’s case, the chief secretary personally handed over the reply and documents to CEC. What do these developments indicate?” he questioned.

“I am not for targeting opposition leaders. But Gowda should have acted wisely and cooperated with CEC to ensure a fair and impartial inquiry,” he added.

The chief minister should remember that, he got the post after the resort politics. “We voted for him as CM and now he writes a letter against us accusing us of taking up resort politics. He treats Lingayat MLAs with vengeance. When we meet him, he looks down upon us. Step-motherly attitude is very much evident,” he said.

The issue of delay in reply to CEC regarding former chief ministers was also raised at the cabinet meeting held on Saturday. According to sources, Yeddyurappa’s followers questioned the chief minister about the issue and even accused him of favouring opposition leaders. The Yeddyurappa loyalists also demanded that the chief minister should send a fresh reply to the CEC in illegal mining case. Sources said that Gowda somehow managed to pacify the Yeddyurappa followers by assuring them that he will consider their demand.

BSY attends BJP meet
Interestingly, Yeddyurappa attended a BJP party meeting at its Malleswaram office on Saturday, to discuss the strategies for the forthcoming MLC elections. His appearance took many by surprise, as he had not been given any responsibility in the election. After attending the meeting, Yeddyurappa said he was confident of party securing victory in all the MLC constituencies.

BJP state president KS Eshwarappa said they will be visiting educational institutions to mobilise voters for the party. MLA CT Ravi explained that four teams have been formed to take up election campaign. They are headed by the chief minister, Eshwarappa, ministers R Ashoka and Jagadish Shettar.
