Railway security officials of Karanataka and Tamil Nadu met on Friday for the first time to discuss the stepsthat need to betaken to strengthen security here. CV Rao, inspector general of Tamil Nadu railways and KSN Chikkerur, Karnataka inspector general of Railways discussed the many ways to enhance security arrangements, especially along the border of the two states, from where the maximum number of railway crimes have been reported.
Speaking to DNA after the meeting Rao said, “We will exchange details of listed criminals. We are also analysing the list of crimes which were reported in the last three months and cases in which passengers from north India are involved. Special security arrangements will be made in the border areas. Railway police official from all southern states will meet soon to discuss the issue.”
In December 2007, the Tamil Nadu railway police introduced a toll-free helpline service for passengers facing inconvenience on-board. The Karnataka railway police officials are also planning to introduce a similar service in the state.
