Eight persons arrested by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sleuths for their role in the PUC paper were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Tarikere, Chikmagalur, on Tuesday. They were remanded in police custody for six days.

The CID’s counsel requested custody of the accused for 15 days to investigate the case and to apprehend those who are absconding. The police will take the accused to Bhadravati, Tarikere, Ajjampur and Bangalore — places where the question papers were sold to students.

Sources in the CID said T Sonnappa, an assistant teacher at Government Primary School in Devanahalli, and CP Ramesh, a lecturer in Sea College, KR Puram, would be brought to the city for further investigation.

CID sleuths arrested eight persons, including the kingpin Munavar Basha, an employee at the block resource centre (BRC) of Kadur, on Monday. The CID police are investigating the II PUC question paper leak cases, which were registered in Chinthamani and Ajjampur, while the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police are investigating the case registered in Malleswaram and Girinagar.

On Tuesday, the police decided to hand over the case to the CID as they arrested 10 persons, including an advocate, in connection to the case registered in Ajjampur.

As per a state government order, all cases regarding question paper leaks should be investigated by the CID police. But the CCB police have continued their investigation as they have already arrested three people in connection with the Bangalore case. But since the CID police arrested those responsible for the leak, the city police have decided to hand over the case to the CID for further investigation.
