Yogeshnagar residents are a hapless lot. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had demolished a few houses in the area for road-widening, but had failed to provide the Transferable Developments Rights (TDR) to the property owners. Now, the residents are running from pillar to post to obtain the TDR from BBMP.

The BBMP had taken up the widening of Anjaneyya Temple Road at Yogeshnagar to connect the Kempapura and the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Hebbal.

Residents said that the road-widening was taken up to facilitate the commuters coming from ORR to Coffee Board Layout, Dasarahalli Main Road and surrounding areas.

While the road widening benefits the commuters by reducing their travel time, the house owners who are losing their land are in trouble.

Shantamma, a resident, said that the BBMP, in December, came with the JCB to demolish her house.

“Fearing that they would damage the entire building, we sought permission from the officials to demolish the portion of the building ourselves. We hired our own men to demolish the portion,” she said, adding that she lost three shops, one water sump and a house due to the demolition. “The BBMP is yet to provide compensation, which they had promised through TDR,” she said, adding that repeated visits to the BBMP and meetings with local leaders have proved in vain.

Mary, another resident, said that the BBMP demolished a portion of her building too. “Even though we submitted the khata certificate and tax receipts to the BBMP, we have not received the TDR. Whenever we demand the TDR, the officials just say that the file is in the head office and will be cleared in some days,” she said.

She added that her husband is a heart patient, and she cannot travel every other day to the BBMP to check the TDR status.

The residents complained that even though the BBMP has failed to provide TDR, they have already started road-widening works.

The BBMP has started digging to construct roadside drains.

The residents also met Byatarayanapura MLA, Krishna Byre Gowda, who directed the BBMP engineers to provide TDR as soon as possible, but nothing has been done so far, complained the residents.  BBMP assistant executive engineer BR Nanjundegowda said that he can comment on the progress only when he looks into the files.
