Bangalore: The 300-odd students who were protesting against the University of Agricultural Sciences after their mate, 20-year-old JK Ramesh, committed suicide a couple of days back at the Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra (GKVK) campus, met the Home Minister on Friday morning. They requested the latter to take action against the authorities for allegedly abetting his suicide.
The home minister, Dr VS Acharya, met 30 students and activists of Dalit Sangarsha Samithi and assured them that an enquiry will be conducted and action will be taken accordingly. The body was then taken to Mulbagal in Kolar where it was cremated. Ramesh is the son of R Jamdadappa, senior manager at Allahabad Bank.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East), Basavaraj Malagatti said that the university had submitted certain documents as records from their side for the investigation. "The documents include the apology letters written by Ramesh and his father the last two times when he was issued notices for indiscipline. We also have copies of Ramesh's pre-university marks card which shows that he acquired only 49 per cent, while his father claimed that he was a rank holder," he said.
