After Chief Justice PD Dinakaran’s name was dropped from the list of judges recommended for elevation to the Supreme Court by that court’s Collegium, the movement against him in the High Court has gathered strength.
Last week, advocates demanded that the chief justice refrain from attending court proceedings until his name is cleared of corruption charges.
On Monday, a battery of senior counsel too joined forces with the advocates. More than 10 senior counsel have expressed their intention not to attend proceedings at Court Hall No.1 of the High Court, presided over by the chief justice.
Among those who have decided not to appear in Court Hall No.1 are former advocate general and senior counsel BV Acharya, senior counsel MV Deva Raju, Jayavittala Rao, MS Padmarajaiah, M Shivappa, Padmanabha Mahale, Pramila Nesargi, RN Narasimha Murthy, Raghavendra Rao and Ravi B Naik. There are also former judges among the senior counsel who have decided not to appear in the Court Hall No.1.
Senior advocate Subramanya Jois had earlier declared that he would not attend PD Dinakaran’s bench. BV Acharya said, “We have together decided not to attend any of the Chief Justice’s proceedings until there is action on allegations of misconduct against him.”
