Several candidates writing the examination for the post of police sub-inspector (PSI) find themselves in the lurch.
There are 400 vacancies in the state, and many times that number of applicants. The written recruitment examination was conducted on November 15. While one set of centres conducted the examination in the morning, another set had evening exams. There were two sets of question papers for the different examinations. At the Gulbarga centre, where the exam was held in the morning, several candidates found themselves answering question papers meant for the evening examination. And some candidates came to the aid of those still to write the exams—mobile phones and other devices were used to transmit the questions to candidates still to take the examination in centres across the state.
Nijaguni, one of those who had taken the examination said, “Invigilators in Gulbarga opened the wrong set of question papers. The questions meant for afternoon session were sent as SMS.”
This is not the first time that this particular examination has been plagued thus. A similar incident had occurred when the examination was conducted for the first time on September 11. Jnanabharathi police found that a constable working at the Police Headquarters on Nrupatunga Road had been distributing question papers. The examination of November 15 was thus a re-examination, after that incident.
Some candidates sought the intervention of the Lokayukta, alleging that question papers had been deliberately leaked. However, Lokayukta officials said that the issue does not come under their jurisdiction, and that candidates would have to seek the intervention of the government.
On Friday, some candidates met additional director general of police (training and recruitment), ST Ramesh. Impatient, Ramesh told the students not to make an issue of the matter, and ruled out conducting yet another re-examination.
