Banglore: To nab or not to nab. This is the question that Cottonpet police are facing with regard to a daytime burglary complaint lodged by Babu Shankar, a resident of KK Lane, on October 26.
According to the complaint, Shankar's 16-year-old daughter had unwittingly helped the suspect, a 17-year-old boy, loot the house of all its valuables. When questioned, the girl confirmed that she had given the keys of her house cupboard to the suspect before leaving home on October 25 for some work. However, she reportedly thought that no harm would come out of trusting the boy, who had professed his love for her.
A police hunt revealed that the boy was employed at a fabrication unit in the area. However, when questioned, he refuted all the allegations against him and swore that he had never taken the keys from the girl.
Then, giving another twist to the tale, he told the police that the girl was mentally unstable. Even the girl's parents confirmed this fact.
According to the girl, she had given a lot of money to the suspect over the last few months. Stating that the boy was a close friend of her brother, she said, "He pretended to love me, only to loot my parents' money and valuables. That day, he asked me for the house keys. When I asked him for the reason, he started emotionally blackmailing me."
Shankar allegedly got the idea of reporting the matter to the police after he saw city commissioner Shankar M Bidari returning seized valuables to their rightful owners on television.
