From today, you will have to shell out Rs2 more for a litre of Nandini milk. Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) had earlier requested the state government to allow a hike of Rs3 on milk, but keeping the interest of consumers in mind, the state has allowed a hike of only Rs2 per litre.

KMF chairman Somashekar Reddy made an announcement of the hike in price of milk in Bellary on Monday. “The state government has accepted the KMF proposal to hike the price of milk. We had sought a Rs3 hike per litre, but the state has only granted permission for a hike of Rs2 per litre,” he said.

He defended hike, saying that it was inevitable, as farmers producing milk had found the cost of production increasing. Reddy said that the hike would be passed to the milk producers completely, as desired by chief minister BS Yeddyurappa. He added that the price of milk in neighbouring states like Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh was higher than even the revised price.
