For students preparing for exams, a little stress is good as it keeps them motivated and focused, but too much of it can harm them.

Those youngsters who cannot cope with stress may develop anxiety disorders. However, family's support can help them in a big way.

Students who are stressed usually complain of lack of sleep, watery eye, tremor in hand and loss of appetite. Sometimes, these students do not even know that they are stressed despite showing symptoms like stomach pain and headache.

Age does not matter when it comes to stress as even college students approach doctors for help.

Parents play an important role in distressing students. Children feel stressed out when family members are stressed. This happens especially when parents are anxious and pushy. To make their child fare well in exams, they end up putting pressure on them either overtly or subtly. This raises the stress level in children.

In many cases, guilt and shame are used by parents to motivate the student, which often leads to unnecessary anxiety.

School and peer pressure too plays a big role. Teachers and parents should be conscious of the sensitivity of children.
How to beat exam stress?

Many students become sleep deprived during this season. However, it is necessary to get at least six to seven hours of sleep at night as it helps in refreshing their memory. Also it is advisable to eat light and frequent meals and avoid junk food and snacks.

Students should have proper planning when it comes to preparing for exams. For instance, they can break the syllabus into small manageable chunks.

They can also hold mock exams to rehearse for the final exam. If the stress is high, they should discuss the matter with an adult.
If it is still unmanageable, they should seek the help of a doctor.
