Suspected parental pressure forced a 19-year-old BCom student of Sheshadripuram College to suicide in the bathroom of her house on Coconut Avenue in Malleswaram on Monday.

K Kavitha, a second year student, was depressed after she had failed to secure good marks in exams. Her parents were constantly demanding the girl to focus on her studies and secure better marks, the police said, adding that the student was disturbed by the pressure exerted on her.

According to her parents, Kavitha had gone to take a shower around 8.45am. When she did not come out, her parents knocked at the bathroom door. As the girl did not respond, they broke open the door and found her hanging.

The girl was the daughter of S Kannan, a cable TV operator owner S Kannan. Kavitha was living with her father,mother, a elder sister and sister and younger brother.
