With a week to go for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination, students are feeling the pressure.
At least 70 calls flooded the helpline set up for SSLC students on day one of its functioning on Wednesday.
The minister for primary and secondary education, Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri, inaugurated the helpline by answering the first call for help.
“A boy named Girish from Bagalkot district was the first caller. He was tense and told me that he was not able to memorise his English lessons. I asked him to be confident and calm, and by doing so, he can pass out with flying colours,” said Kageri. The helpline will function from 3 pm to 5 pm every day till March 31.
Over eight lakh students are appearing for this year’s SSLC exam, which will be held from April 1 to 9 at 2,895 centres across the state.
Bangalore has the highest number of examination centres —- Bangalore North, 188, Bangalore South, 209, and Bangalore 55.
The Karnataka Secondary Education Examinations Board (KSEEB) has appointed district-level squads in all districts to prevent malpractices and ensure the smooth conduct of the exam.
“We have identified 304 sensitive and 174 super-sensitive centres across the state. A senior official in the department will be heading each district-level squad. We have also formed divisional district squads under deputy commissioners,” he said.
“We are planning to start evaluation work on April 15. About 40,000 teachers will be appointed for the work, and there will be 206 evaluation centres,” he said.
The minister added that there would not be any hike in the SSLC exam work remuneration of the teachers this year.
“The state faced many tragedies like floods innorthern Karnataka last year. hence we will not be able to hike the remuneration of the teachers this year,” he said.
