The issue of Indian universities lacking infrastructure to support research once again came to forefront on Sunday.

“There is a lack of infrastructure in Indian universities to enhance the quality of research, which could bring in good socio-economic impact,” said Prof KS Rangappa, vice-chancellor of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU). He was speaking at the valedictory ceremony of Inspire Internship Science Camp, 2012, on Sunday.

Bangalore University’s School of Natural Science had organised the science camp and the programme.

On the occasion, Prof NS Ramegowda, former vice-chancellor of KSOU, who was the guest of honour at the event, emphasised on the need to improve the quality of education.

Students from Madurai, Ranchi, Kolar, Channapattana, Nelamangala, Srinivasapura and Bangalore attended the science camp. The students said the camp was an eye-opener for them and goaded them to consider science as a career option. The main focus of the five-day camp was scientific research and comprised 16 lectures.
