One killed as lorry rams motorcycle, catches fire

A 35-year-old man was killed and his motorcycle charred when a road accident sparked a fire on Bagalur Road late on Tuesday.

Police said on Wednesday that the deceased, Venkatanarasimha, was returning after a visit to his mother when the accident happened. The motorcycle skidded and fell on the road while the rider took a right turn on Bellary Road near Chikajala around 10.15 pm.

A tipper lorry coming from the opposite direction ran over the rider and the motorcycle. The lorry dragged the bike along for about 50 metres before stopping. Sparks caused in the mishap might have ignited the fuel that spilled on the road.

Police said Venkatanarasimha was crushed under the lorry, which was partially destroyed in the fire. The lorry driver absconded soon after the accident.The deceased was married and had two children.

In another accident, a speeding tipper lorry rammed into a stationary tempo van, killing two persons and injuring four others at Whitefield on Wednesday.
The deceased, Pappanna (42) and Selvaraj (51), and those injured were in the tempo. Police stated that the injured were in serious condition. They were shifted to Mallya Hospital.

The accident occurred on Chikka Tirupathi road around 2.30 am. Police said Pappanna was killed on the spot, while Selvaraj died in the hospital.
