State medical education minister SA Ramdas had a bigger surprise in store when he tried to surprise invigilators and candidates at two exam centres where nursing exams were under way.

There he found students, who are expected to become an arm to a physician or surgeon, well armed with answer papers provided by faculties and hurriedly copying them.

Minister SA Ramdas, on Wednesday, made the unscheduled visits to Srinivas College of Pharmacy and MR DEd College near Hennur where exams for second year BSc nursing courses were in progress.

He found a total of 500 students indulging in mass copying at these centres.

Re-examination had been ordered for candidates in these centres. A student from a nursing college in Rajasthan who took the exam said she was provided with answer papers.

In MR D.Ed College, some of the students tried to hide in the bathroom after being caught red handed.  Some other candidates were found sitting in the staff room copying from textbooks. Talking to the media Medical Education Minister SA Ramadas, said,

“Following the information provided by a source, we conducted the raids and found that the colleges had indulged in outright malpractices and fraudulent activities. Although such a raid was conducted in Bellary on Monday, these colleges were still engaged in such activities,” Ramdas said.

“Most of the students were from other states and they were granted permission to appear for the BSc Nursing exam. A student admitted that she is not from any college in the state and has been allowed to appear for the examination and also copy from chits”, he said.
