A 19-year-old nursing student allegedly committed suicide in her college hostel room at Kommaghatta near Kengeri on Monday morning.

Identifying the deceased as Pratima Pokher, a I BSc student of Padmashree College of Nursing, police said she had been suffering from depression for the past few months and was under medication.

The girl was from Nepal. Police said the medicine was sent regularly by her parents from the Himalayan nation. However, the tablets had not reached her recently.

Pratima had not gone to the class at 9 am as usual on Monday. Half-an-hour later, a hostel employee found her hanging from the grill of the staircase.

“She hanged herself after all students had left the hostel,” a police officer said. The body was shifted to Rajarajeshwari Medical College for a post-mortem examination, which would be conducted after her parents arrive from Nepal.
