Nothing to worry, state secure: BS Yeddyurappa

Chief minister BS Yeddyurappa on Thursday held a high-level security review meeting in the wake of the Mumbai serial blasts that killed 21 persons and injured several others a day ago.
After the meeting, he assured the people that there was nothing to worry about in the state.

“After the incident (Wednesday’s blasts), a red alert has been declared all over the state. Security has been beefed up to the maximum extent. Special security measures were taken in coastal areas, and our police are capable of facing any kind of situation. People need not panic and worry about  safety,” he said.

Briefing the media after the meeting, minister for home R Ashoka said, “In the wake of the Mumbai serial blasts, the Union government has directed the state to keep an eye on banned terrorist organisations such as Deendar Anjuman, Simi, Indian Mujahiddin, Lashkar-e-Taiba and others. According to the Union home ministry’s directions, we have already declared high alert, and security has been beefed up across the state, especially in Bangalore city. We have deployed more police personnel in the city’s sensitive areas,” he added.

Additional police personnel have been deployed in Majestic, KR Market, railway stations, shopping malls and IT and BT companies. “We have deployed 15 platoons of the Karnataka state reserve police and eight platoons of the city Armed Reserve Police,” Ashoka said.

The home minister said the state’s command force is well equipped to face any situation and even probable attacks by militant groups. “Our bomb detection-and-defuse squads are well trained and equipped,” he added.

The meeting was attended by director-general of police Neelam Achuth Rao, additional director-general of police RK Dutta and other senior police officers.
