Karnataka governor HR Bhardwaj on Saturday got candid in a speech during the release of the Kannada translation of his book India: A Fellowships of Faiths.

The Kannada version is called Bharata: Dharmagala Myrthriya Nadu. “Let me tell you a secret today. As a minister, I have always promoted the South (India). You are leaders in all walks of life. How can we allow Karnataka go down the drain,” he said.

Although his spiritual side dominated the evening, Bhardwaj did let a few lines on politics slip through. “Where is Hinduism going now? We are confusing religion with politics. If this corrupt practice goes on, no Parliament, no Assembly will exist,” he warned.

The electoral process will be fractured if the present state of affairs continues, he said, adding that he had discussed his worry with the solicitor-general. Chief minister BS Yeddyurappa was slated to attend the programme, but chose to give it a miss.
