Need police help? Dial 155365 free of cost

The Karnataka state police have started a new toll free number meant for the benefit of citizens. However, the new number — 155365 — allotted by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), is accessible only through landline/mobile numbers of the government telecom operator.

In a statement released to the media on Wednesday, the state police said that it was trying to make the number available through the other telecom providers too.

Director general of police, ST Ramesh said that the director general’s toll free helpline — 1800 4250 100 — is accessible on all BSNL numbers and other numbers in the country.

The toll free numbers aim to reach the needy who require help for their kith and kin, those who want police assistance and others who, for some reason, are not in a position to contact anyone else.

The primary objective of these toll free numbers is to help and solve the problems of poor and needy citizens, senior citizens and HIV/AIDS affected persons.

The toll free number 1800 4250 100 is open to all and can be reached to get police assistance or pass information about crime and criminals and also in case some one wants to make suggestions for the improvement of police and community relations.

Any grievances regarding corruption in police services or other high-handed actions would be recorded and followed up for action. One will get a feedback on actions taken.
