Bangalore: NR Narayana Murthy's wife Sudha has thrown a line for his Catamaran, the venture fund recently floated by the Infosys chairman and chief mentor. She sold 20 lakh Infosys shares to raise Rs430 crore in the open market on Thursday.
Combined with the Rs174 crore raised by Murthy by selling 0.13% of his stake last month, the corpus for Catamaran Investment Pvt Ltd has swollen to Rs600 crore. The money will be used to kick-start businesses across a wide spectrum in the country.
According to Bombay Stock Exchange shareholding data, Sudha held 1.62% in Infosys while Murthy held 0.55% at the end of September before they sold part of their stakes.
After the sell-off, Sudha's holding has been reduced to 73.14 lakh shares, representing a 1.27% stake.
The Murthys have confirmed they do not plan to raise more capital for the fund. This was informed by Infosys to the stock exchanges in a statement on Thursday. The couple's daughter Akshata and son Rohan hold 1.41% and 1.39% stake, respectively, in the company.
