Money matters: Man murdered by friend

Published: Monday, Feb 6, 2012, 14:02 IST

A 30-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his friends on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Suneel Kumar, a resident of Kengunte. He was working as a warden in Kempegowda Institute of Medical Science (KIMS) for the past one year.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Suneel went out with his friends to a bar. They were heading home at 2am when they were attacked by some men. According to police, Suneel’s friend Manjunath alias Golla Manja is the prime suspect in the case. Manju reportedly asked Rs10,000 from Suneel. The latter refused to give him money.

This led to a heated argument between the two. One of Manjunath’s aides reportedly hit Suneel’s two other friends Megharaj and Murthy with a wooden stick. This led to a gang fight, resulting in Manjunath smashing Suneel’s head using a rock.

Suneel died instantly and Manjunath and his aides fled the spot.

Megharaj and Murthy were severely injured and the duo was rushed to a private hospital for treatment.

Suneel’s father Bileraju said that his son left the house at 5.30pm on Saturday to meet his friends. But he did not return home.

Bileraju tried to call him, but Suneel’s cell was switched off. He came to know about his son’s murder only after the news channels broke the story on Sunday morning.

Gambling proves costly for him
