Bangalore: Information provided by the missing persons bureau helped solve a murder case, which was reported at the Tilak Nagar police station in February. Police arrested nine persons in this connection.

Police identified the deceased as Madeyan (30), a resident of Madivala hailing from Pudur village in Tamil Nadu's Dharmapuri district. The accused were identified as Mohammed Akbar (25), Khaja Mohinuddeen alias Mohin (32), Harshad alias Shekh Akbar (24), Abdul Rehman (23), Jaheer Khan (23), Sayed Nyamath (22), Imran Khan (24), Habeeb Ul Rehaman (24) and Safir Ahmed (24).

According to deputy commissioner of police (south-east) BNS Reddy, Madeyan had fallen in love with Hajeera, a garment factory worker from Subhash Nagar.

One day in February, while both of them were sitting in a park behind the Tavarekere petrol pump, the accused persons saw them. Angered by the fact that a girl from their community was dating a person from another, they took the victim to SRK Garden near Tilaknagar and assaulted him with wooden logs. Madeyan died on the spot. Mohammed Rafiq, a resident of the area, saw Madeyan's body and reported the matter to the police. Meanwhile, Hajeera was taken to a madrasa in Andhra Pradesh.

Unable to identify his body, Tilaknagar police registered a murder case after receiving the autopsy report. Eight months passed without the case being detected.

Meanwhile, Madeyan's brother Gopi had lodged a missing complaint. When the police recently collected a list of names from the missing persons' bureau, they found that Madeyan's description matched that of the body found in SRK Park. A photo of the victim dispelled all doubts about the case.

Following that, investigators collected the details of calls made by the suspects from Madeyan's phone after his death. Upon being questioned, the gang members admitted that they had killed him because he was going out with a person from their community.

The police produced the accused in court, after which they were remanded to judicial custody. They also seized mobile phones, six motorcycles and a Maruti car from their possession.
