Bangalore: ProSIM R&D Pvt, Ltd, a Bangalore-based virtual product development and Virtual testing company, today claimed it has technology to analyse and rectify component failure in ageing MIG aircraft.

"We are into talks with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and the Union Government to offer the technology, which will help to enhance the life of aircraft", company managing director Shamasundar told a press conference here.

ProSIM, also a virtual prototyping company, has tied up with Safe Technology of Sheffield, the UK, and Zentech International of London that specialises in virtual testing of fatigue and fracture of equipment.

"It is now possible to find out how long an aircraft, defence equipment or a power plant will last using high end simulation technology", Shamasundar said. Safe Technology is known for the durability assessment tool FESAFE, and Zentech International specialises in a fracture and failure simulation tool called ZENCRACK, he said, adding that these technologies are useful in design stage of product development.

India has a large feet of ageing aircraft in both civil and military domains which needs to be assessed for the life assessment and extention for future use, he said. The cost of life extension will save several thousands of crores of rupees to Indian Air Force, he added.

Safe Technology CEO John Draper said that the loss due to fatigue and fracture in aviation sector in US and Europe accounted for four per cent of its GDP annually.
