A 30-year-old Havildar of the Madras Engineering Group (MEG) fell to his death from the Ramamurthy Nagar flyover on Sunday evening, police said.
The deceased, Vishwanath (30), a native of Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu, was returning to the MEG facility in Maruti Seva Nagar from a relative’s place on a two-wheeler when the accident happened.
Police said Vishwanath violated the one-way rule to enter the flyover around 6.30 pm. On seeing vehicles hurtling towards him, he apparently panicked and applied the brakes. However, as his bike came to an abrupt halt, he was thrown off the vehicle and the flyover to a park about 30 feet below. He suffered head injuries
in the fall and died instantly.
Vishwanath was returning from the house of his relative Lakshmi Naryana in Mahadevapura when the accident happened. He had obtained permission from the MEG authorities to spend the day at Narayana’s residence.
Police, who were informed of the incident by passersby, shifted Vishwanath’s body to the Bowring Hospital. The body would be handed over to his relatives after a post-mortem examination on Monday.
Police said they had informed Narayana of the incident, who, in turn, passed on the tragic news to the victim’s parents.
Vishwanath had joined the MEG eight years ago. He was to get married in September this year.
The KR Puram traffic police registered a case and were investigating.
