Just two days ago, home minister R Ashoka had inspected the work of the Kadirenahalli underpass and took Madhav Hightech to task for the delay. On Monday, it was the mayor’s turn.

Mayor R Sharadamma inspected the work of a bridge being constructed across a storm-water drain near New BEL Road, undertaken by the same company. Irked by the slow pace at which the work was progressing, she fixed a week’s deadline for its completion.

The mayor, along with Malleswaram MLA Ashwath Narayan, Dasarahalli MLA Muniraju, ruling party leader Nanjundappa and BBMP officers carried out the inspection. She said that the company was bringing huge losses and bad reputation to the BBMP by taking up various projects and not completing one on time.

The mayor also threatened to blacklist the company. “Companies like this bid the lowest and bag the tender but later they are unable to complete the projects on time causing distress to the public,” she said. The mayor said all works, including asphalting, should be completed before the bridge is thrown open to traffic. Action will be taken if there is further delay, she said.

The project was started on July 14, 2009 with a cost of Rs225 lakh.
